Since I began the raw vegan diet I tell everyone about it – whether they want to hear it or not! My Best Friend Forever was no exception. I wasn’t preaching to her, just letting her in on my discovery and how I was getting better and better by eating real, unprocessed food in its natural state, and nothing made in a factory.
So, she decided to try it for herself for 90 days*, and gave me the recipe for her favorite smoothie. I loved it. I added a few immune-boosting, healing ingredients and have been drinking it every morning since. I cram the blender full and drink it all within 30 minutes. It’s filling, satisfying, and gives me tons of energy.
If you’re new to raw food and eating healthy, either add more fruit, or less greens until you adjust to the taste. When your taste buds are accustomed to processed food – which is loaded with sugars and chemicals – it can be a shock to the tongue to eat real food at first!
Here are the ingredients:
Thumb-size piece of ginger, peeled and diced
2×3 inch piece of Aloe Vera (You can pare the skin off and only use the gel, or leave the skin on, but definitely remove the thorns!)
2 peeled oranges (I leave the pith (white part) on.)
3-4 large handfuls of baby spinach (or greens of your choice)
2 dozen grapes
1 cap full of Apple Cider Vinegar (I prefer Bragg)
Approx 1 cup of cold water
Blend until smooth, then add 1 frozen banana, then blend again.
Voila! Delizioso!
*My BFF went raw for 90 days to lose weight and lost 40+ pounds, which is fantastic! However, she reaped some other, wonderful and unexpected benefits too. Her anxiety decreased dramatically, she was mentally clearer than she had been in a long while, her cholesterol level normalized, (cholesterol only comes from animal products) and she had tons of energy. I’d say that’s a win!
