Life is a never-ending series of decisions, problems to solve, and obstacles to overcome. Think about that for a minute. It’s true.
To solve the problem of what to wear every day, Albert Einstein had several similar suits, shirts, and ties, so he would have one less decision to make. Steve Jobs and Cornell West adopted this too, to avoid what is now called “decision fatigue”.
One less decision to make every day frees the mind to focus on bigger and better things.
As a woman, there’s no way in h-e-l-l I’m going to wear the same thing every day. However, I have applied this to my daily menu, and it’s made life easier.
Solving a daily problem in advance – what to eat.
On the raw vegan diet there are so many choices that it can be overwhelming. Plus, the preparation times can be longer to make some meals fresh*. That can be daunting when you’re in a hurry, or don’t yet have the energy to make an elaborate recipe. (*In comparison to just putting some fake food from a box in the nuker for a minute.)
Here’s my solution: I chose my absolute favorite foods and eat them every single day for two meals, sometimes three.
I know it sounds booorrrinnng, but it really isn’t. If you love what you’re eating then every meal is a treat!
Here’s an example. Every morning I’ll have a 32 ounce blender of green smoothie (recipe here). But, if I don’t have time to chop all that up, then my go-to smoothie is blueberries, bananas, pumpkin seeds, and cucumber. The bananas and cukes are already cut and peeled, and everything is in the freezer, so I just throw it all in the blender and voila.
I snack on fresh fruit, and sometimes a handful of raw cashews or raw walnuts. Zero prep time.
For lunch it’s the most delicious salad every day with all of my favorite ingredients: Baby Boston lettuce, dandelion greens, alfalfa, ½ cuke, ½ avocado, olives, Greek Cornichon pickles, a dollop of garlic hummus, and a handful of grapes or a cut up orange to top it off. The flavors and textures are amazing together, and I look forward to it every single day. It takes me less than ten minutes to make, and I don’t have to make any decision, I can remain focused on other things. (See the photo above for this deliciousness!)
Just think – fewer decisions in the supermarket too, and you’re not buying a whole bunch of food you’ll never eat.
The unexpected benefit of this is that when I eat or drink something different now that “doesn’t agree with me” or makes me feel super-good I know right away what it is. It has made listening to my body much, much easier.
You may be thinking that you would get bored eating the same thing every day, but try it for a week and you’ll see…Eating like a genius makes life simpler, and couldn’t we all benefit from that? Hell yes!
